Summer villas in Tuscany, from coast to vineyard
Summer in Tuscany need not mean choosing between countryside and sea. Along the Etruscan Coast and in the Maremma, vineyards and pine woods run almost to the beach, so a day can start with a swim, pass through a long lunch among cypresses and end with a glass of Bolgheri red as the heat lifts from the hills. Inland, the medieval towns come alive on summer evenings, when their squares fill with tables.
Among the villas below: a castle near the coast with 10th century walls, a chapel, a watchtower, a 22 m pool and full staff; a villa in the Marina di Bibbona pinewood with a private path through the dunes to its own reserved beach area; and an 18 m infinity pool on a cliff of Monte Argentario.

The famous double row of cypresses leading to the village is best driven in the early evening, when the light is low and golden.
The coastal pinewoods give welcome shade on the walk to the beach, and the scent of resin in the heat is part of a Tuscan summer.
Around Monte Argentario, the clearest swimming lies in rocky coves best reached by boat from Porto Santo Stefano or Porto Ercole.

Questions before you choose
Which airport is best?
Pisa and Florence serve the north and the Etruscan Coast; for Monte Argentario and the southern Maremma, Rome Fiumicino is often closer. A car is essential in rural Tuscany.
Are the pools open all summer?
Yes. Pools are usually open from May to October, so they are fully available throughout June, July and August.
What is the usual stay?
Most Tuscan villas rent Saturday to Saturday in summer, for one week or more. With 232 houses to choose from, send up to five in one enquiry and expect an answer within one working day.
