Amalfi, June to August

Summer in Amalfi, from a villa above the town

Amalfi gave its name to the whole coast. Once a maritime republic that traded across the Mediterranean, it is now a small town of white houses, lemon terraces and a cathedral reached by a broad flight of steps. In summer the harbour is the busiest on the coast, with ferries leaving for Positano, Salerno and Capri. A villa above the town gives you both.

One house below sits 10 minutes on foot from the cathedral, with a 12 m infinity pool and Vietri tiles in the floors. Another has a private staircase of about 40 steps down to Salicerchie beach. At sea level, a house with its own rocky platform and pier includes a free water taxi to the beach restaurants of Santa Croce, while above the town a 36 m infinity pool runs along the hillside, with a butler on hand.

The lemon of Amalfi

The sfusato amalfitano is long, fragrant and grown on terraced pergolas. In summer you will taste it in granita, pastries and limoncello.

Leave early for the boats

Morning ferries and private boats avoid both the heat and the crowds. The coves between Amalfi and Conca dei Marini are best seen from the water.

Paper and old mills

Amalfi has made paper since the Middle Ages. The Valle dei Mulini above the town still holds the old mills, a shaded walk on a hot day.

Good to know

Questions before you choose

Is Amalfi very crowded in summer?

The town centre is busy by day, especially in July and August when visitors arrive by bus and boat. Evenings are calmer, and a villa above or outside the centre gives you space and quiet.

How do we get to Amalfi?

Fly to Naples and allow around two hours by car, or take the train to Salerno and continue by ferry in summer. A private transfer is the easiest way to arrive with luggage.

What is the usual rental period?

Summer stays generally run for a week, Saturday to Saturday. You can enquire about up to five villas in one message; we reply within one working day with confirmed availability and price.
