Summer villas on the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast runs some 50 km from Positano to Vietri sul Mare, and in summer every one of its villages lives facing the water. Boats replace cars for the day, lemon granita replaces lunch, and the evening walk through Amalfi or Maiori stretches towards midnight. The art lies in choosing a stretch of coast that suits your pace.
The villas below make the sea part of the house. East of Maiori, a medieval watchtower on a sheer cliff has a two level pool and a path to a private cove, while another house nearby offers a 17 m saltwater pool with steps into the sea. At Conca dei Marini a pool is set into the cliff; near Amalfi, about 40 steps lead down to Salicerchie beach.

The western coast around Positano and Praiano is steep and dramatic; Maiori and Minori to the east have longer beaches and a gentler pace.
Ferries link Salerno, Amalfi and Positano through the summer, sparing you the coast road, which is slow and busy in July and August.
Between one and four the heat is strongest. Follow local habit: a long lunch, a siesta in the shade, the beach again at five.

Questions before you choose
Which airport is best for the Amalfi Coast?
Naples is the main airport, around 90 minutes to two hours by road depending on your village. Rome offers more routes; from there, high speed trains reach Salerno, which connects by ferry or car.
Is a car useful in summer?
Rarely. The coast road is narrow and parking scarce. Ferries, buses and private drivers cover most journeys, and many villas are best reached on foot from the road.
What is the minimum stay in July and August?
Usually one week, Saturday to Saturday. Some owners accept shorter stays in June; we ask on your behalf when you send an enquiry for up to five villas.
