September is the coast's second summer. The sea keeps its August warmth, the villages empty a little once Italian families go home, and the hills around Tramonti and Furore are busy with the grape harvest. The heat eases, so an afternoon in Ravello or Atrani is comfortable again, and the light over the water turns amber towards evening.
The villas below are made for this season of long swims. A medieval watchtower east of Maiori has a two level pool and a path to a private cove; a 16th century Saracen tower at Vietri sul Mare has a private path down to the beach at Marina di Albori. At Conca dei Marini, the pool is set into the cliff above the water.

Terraced vineyards above the sea produce the Costa d'Amalfi wines. September is harvest time, and several wineries welcome visitors.
Ravello sits some 350 m above the sea, cooler at night and known for its summer concerts in the gardens of Villa Rufolo.
After the first week, beach clubs are quieter and boats easier to hire, while the water stays warm well into the month.

Questions before you choose
Is September still high season?
Early September remains busy and many villas still rent Saturday to Saturday. From mid September the pace slows, and some owners accept shorter stays.
Will the weather hold into October?
Usually, though the first autumn storms can arrive. Early October often brings warm, clear days, and outdoor pools generally stay open until the end of the month.
