Many islanders consider September Capri's finest month, and the reasons are plain. The sea has stored the whole summer's heat, the August crowds have thinned, and the light turns golden earlier in the evening, lingering on the Faraglioni. Days are still long enough for a morning boat trip, a swim, a late lunch and a sunset aperitivo, while the nights grow cool enough to sleep with the windows open.

Sea temperatures peak in late August and early September, so swimming in the coves feels effortless well into the month.
The island's small terraced vineyards are harvested at the end of summer, and Capri's own white wine is worth trying with fish.
By early October the island is calmer, some seasonal boats stop running and the evenings shorten. Bring a light jacket for dinner outdoors.

Is early October still swimming weather?
Often, yes. The sea usually stays warm into October, although autumn can bring a few windy or rainy days. Pools generally remain open until the end of the month.
Do villas still rent Saturday to Saturday in September?
Many do, as September is still high season on Capri. From late September some owners accept shorter or midweek stays; we ask on your behalf when you enquire.
