Many who know Positano well choose September. The sea has held the whole summer's heat, the August crowds have left, and the light turns golden earlier in the evening. Days are still made for swimming, while the cooler nights make dinner on a terrace a pleasure rather than a refuge from the heat.

After a long summer, the water in early September is often around 24 °C, warmer than it is in June.
Terraced vineyards at Furore, Tramonti and Ravello are picked in September and early October; ask for a local Falanghina with dinner.
Ferries still run through September and much of October, and with fewer passengers a day on Capri or in Amalfi is far calmer.

Is it still warm enough to swim in October?
Usually, yes, in the first half of the month. The sea stays mild after the summer, though days can be changeable. Outdoor pools generally close towards the end of October.
Do villas still rent Saturday to Saturday in September?
Many owners keep weekly Saturday changeovers through September. From October, shorter stays are more often accepted; we confirm the rule for each villa when we reply.
