September is the month many regulars choose. The lake has had a whole summer to warm, so swimming from the jetty is still a pleasure, while the air turns clearer and the crowds of August thin out. The light grows lower and more golden each week, and by early October the chestnut woods on the slopes begin to turn.
Among the 47 villas below, a 16th century palace at Torno stands beside a waterfall that drops into the lake, and can be reached by boat, helicopter or car. At Blevio, an 18th century house has a loft built out over the water, and at Pianello del Lario a walkway in front of the gate runs down to a small pebble beach.

Usually the first weeks are warm and settled, with cooler mornings and evenings. Rain becomes more likely towards October, so plan outdoor days with a little flexibility.
Are the pools still open in September?
Yes. Villa pools are usually open from May to October, and some here are heated, which keeps them pleasant into early October.
