The Dolomites suit families in two seasons. In winter the Dolomiti Superski network links valleys such as Alta Badia, Val Gardena and Arabba, so gentle runs and ski schools are never far away. In summer the same lifts carry children up to meadows, easy trails and mountain huts serving dumplings and apple strudel.
The chalets below are built for tired legs at the end of the day. One above Colfosco sits a few minutes' walk from the slopes, with its own spa and outdoor whirlpool; a farmstead in Arabba has direct access to the pistes. Above Selva, a heated infinity pool faces the Puez Odle peaks, and in Cortina a 20 m indoor pool comes with a cinema room. The selection also reaches Courmayeur, beneath Mont Blanc.

Val Gardena, Alta Badia and Cortina all have long established ski schools with classes for young children, often in German and English as well as Italian.
From late June to September many cable cars run for walkers, so families reach high meadows and lakes without a long climb.
Indoor pools, saunas and whirlpools turn a short winter afternoon into time together, long after the lifts have closed.

Questions before you choose
Which airports serve the Dolomites?
Venice, Verona, Innsbruck and Munich are the usual gateways, with Bolzano closer for some valleys. Transfers take roughly two to three hours from the larger airports; for Courmayeur, Turin and Geneva are nearest.
Is there a minimum stay?
In the ski season and in August many chalets rent Saturday to Saturday for a week or more. Shorter stays are sometimes possible in quieter weeks, and we ask the owner for you.
