Capri with children

Family villas on Capri

Capri is kinder to families than its glamorous reputation suggests. It is small, walkable and largely free of traffic in its centres, and children quickly adopt its rhythms: the funicular ride up from the harbour, a gelato in the Piazzetta, a swim off the rocks at Marina Piccola, a boat trip to count the grottoes. With a villa as a base, naps, early suppers and late swims fit around the family rather than a hotel timetable.

The houses below have three bedrooms or more and a pool, beach or family equipment. There is a villa whose private funicular climbs to gardens of roses and jasmine, a house with a staircase straight down to a cove beach, and the tiered gardens and goldfish pond of a summer house on Monte Solaro.

Pushchairs and steps

Many lanes on Capri are stepped. A light folding pushchair or a baby carrier is far more practical than a large pram.

Small beaches, rocky shores

Most swimming is from rocks or small bathing platforms rather than sand; the pebble beach at Marina Piccola offers one of the easier ways into the water.

The funicular as an outing

Children love the short ride between Marina Grande and the Piazzetta, and it spares everyone a steep climb with bags.

Questions before you choose

Capri or Anacapri for a family?

Anacapri is flatter, calmer and slightly cooler, with space to walk; Capri town is livelier and closer to the beaches of Marina Piccola. The choice rests on your preference for quiet or convenience.

Can we get baby equipment?

Owners can often provide a cot and high chair. Mention ages and needs in your enquiry, which may include up to five villas, and we confirm them with availability within one working day.

Is the crossing easy with small children?

Hydrofoils are quick but can feel bumpy in a swell, while the slower ferries are larger and steadier. Sorrento offers the shortest crossing if anyone is prone to seasickness.
