Capri, April and May

Spring on Capri, a villa among the gardens

Spring is the walker's season on Capri. The limestone slopes turn green and yellow with broom, wild flowers line the paths, and the air is mild enough to cross the island on foot: up the Phoenician Steps from Marina Grande to Anacapri, along the Pizzolungo path past the Arco Naturale, or by chairlift to the summit of Monte Solaro for a view over both gulfs.

Gardens are at their finest now, which makes these villas especially rewarding: a noble family's summer house with two acres of tiered gardens, sculptures and a goldfish pond; a house of arched windows and Murano glass high above Anacapri; and a villa of four houses in Mediterranean gardens around a heated pool terrace above Marina Piccola.

Walk before the heat

In April and May a full morning's hike is comfortable. Wear sturdy shoes: many paths are stepped and uneven, the Phoenician Steps above all.

Chairlift to Monte Solaro

From Anacapri a single seat chairlift climbs to the island's highest point, with views to the Faraglioni, Vesuvius and the Amalfi Coast on a clear day.

A heated pool in April

Owners usually open their pools in May. For an April stay, a villa with a heated pool is worth asking about before you choose.

Good to know

Questions before you choose

Is May a good month for swimming?

The sea warms slowly, and late May is pleasant for a short swim on sunny days. Pools are usually open from May, so a villa with its own pool is the more reliable choice.

How busy is Capri in spring?

Busier around Easter and Italian public holidays such as 25 April and 1 May, calmer on weekdays. Day visitors still come, yet the island feels far more spacious than in July or August.

How does the enquiry work?

Pick up to five villas, add your dates and send one request. A person checks each owner's calendar and replies within one working day with availability and price; nothing is booked until you confirm.
