Many villas here are country houses among olive groves, where the loudest sound at noon is the cicadas, and the sea is close enough to reach before breakfast and leave behind by the afternoon.

The summer sun in Salento is strong by mid morning; an early swim and a late one leave the middle of the day for shade and lunch.

After a day at the pool, drive to the Ionian coast for sunset, when the water turns copper around Gallipoli and Porto Selvaggio.

Questions before you choose
Are pools available in spring and autumn?
The usual pool season is May to October. Several villas here have heated pools or spas, which make May and October swims pleasant. Ask whether heating is included when you enquire.
How far are the villas from a beach?
Salento is narrow, so most villas are within a short drive of either the Adriatic or the Ionian, and some have a path to the rocks. Each listing shows the distance to the nearest beach.
