On a coast of busy summer beaches, a private pool is what gives the day its calm. You can spend the morning at the sea, or take a boat out to Giglio, then come back to cool, clear water and a terrace that nobody else shares. Many pools here look over the Tyrrhenian itself, so the sea is never out of sight.
Several of the houses below were chosen for their water. On a cliff of Monte Argentario, an 18 m infinity pool with a jacuzzi corner seems to hang above the waves. In Porto Ercole, a hilltop house between the two Spanish fortresses has a saltwater pool facing the open sea, and a castle near Castagneto Carducci, with its chapel and watchtower, offers a 22 m pool for proper lengths.

Some pools on this coast are filled with seawater or use a saltwater system: gentler on skin and eyes than heavily chlorinated water.
Much of this coast looks west over the Tyrrhenian, so pools and terraces often catch the sunset directly. Worth asking about when you choose.
Cliff pools on Argentario can be breezy on some afternoons. Houses in the pinewoods are more sheltered. We can advise on each.

Questions before you choose
Are pools open all year?
No. Pools are usually open from May to October. If you plan to travel at either end of that window, we ask whether the pool is heated.
How do we get to Monte Argentario?
Rome Fiumicino is around two hours by car, and there are trains to Orbetello from Rome and Pisa. A car is needed for the villas, as the headland roads are steep and winding.
