Summer villas on the Maremma and Argentario coast
The southern Tuscan coast keeps a wilder character than the resorts further north. Long sandy beaches are backed by umbrella pines, the hills behind grow the wines of Bolgheri, and at its southern end Monte Argentario rises almost as an island, tied to the mainland by strips of sand around the Orbetello lagoon. Summer here is spent between the sea in the morning and the shade of a terrace after lunch.
The houses on this page follow that rhythm. A villa in the Marina di Bibbona pinewood has a private path through the dunes to its own reserved stretch of beach; a cliffside house at Castiglioncello has a circular seawater pool and steps down to the rocks. On Argentario, an 18 m infinity pool hangs above the sea, while a castle with 10th century walls comes with full staff.

Ferries leave Porto Santo Stefano for the islands of Giglio and Giannutri. A private boat day around Argentario's coves is a classic summer outing.
The Tyrrhenian is pleasant from June but reaches its warmest in August and early September, when evenings on the coast are also softer.
Bolgheri's famous cypress avenue and cellars are minutes inland from the coast around Castagneto Carducci, for an evening tasting after the sea.

Questions before you choose
Which airport should we fly into?
For the northern stretch around Castiglioncello, Bibbona and Bolgheri, Pisa is about an hour away. For Argentario and Porto Ercole, Rome Fiumicino is usually closer, at around two hours by car.
Is a week the minimum in summer?
In July and August nearly all villas rent by the week, Saturday to Saturday. In June a shorter stay is sometimes accepted, and we ask each owner for you.
