Praiano lies between Positano and Amalfi, close to both and quieter than either. It spreads along the cliff rather than down to a single harbour, so its terraces hold the sun until late and look west towards Positano as the evening falls. In summer village life moves between the small beach at Marina di Praia and the pedestrian lanes above it.
The houses below include a cliffside villa in the pedestrian heart of Praiano, with a hot tub for four and sunny sea terraces, and a former ruin now crowned by a saltwater infinity pool and a rooftop garden. One house keeps fragments of Roman columns and an amphora in its dining room. Nearby, at Conca dei Marini, a seafront house has a pool set into the cliff and a stone platform stepping into the sea.

Praiano faces south west along the coast, so summer sunsets fall towards Positano. Keep the last hour of light for dinner on the terrace.
A short drive east, the Fiordo di Furore is a deep, narrow inlet crossed by a road bridge, with a tiny beach at the bottom.
The coastal road is busy in July and August. Small boats from Marina di Praia can be the more pleasant way to reach Positano or Amalfi.

Is Praiano a good base for Positano and Amalfi?
Yes. Positano lies to the west and Amalfi to the east, each a short drive along the coastal road, with local buses and boats in summer. Praiano itself stays calmer in the evening.
How warm is the sea in summer?
The sea warms through June and is at its best in July and August, when swimming is comfortable for most people. Several houses combine a pool, usually open from May to October, with access to the sea.
What should we know about summer bookings?
