Summer on Capri, from a villa above the sea
A summer on Capri divides itself neatly in two. By day the island belongs to the boats and the crowds arriving at Marina Grande; once the last ferries leave, the lanes empty, the Piazzetta softens and Capri returns to those who sleep on it. A villa is the surest way to enjoy that second island: long lunches on your own terrace, a swim at Marina Piccola in the late afternoon, a walk into town after the day visitors have gone.
The houses below show the island's range. One has a private staircase from its pool terrace down to a cove beach at Marina Piccola, facing the Faraglioni; another offers a saltwater infinity pool high above Anacapri; a noble family's summer house on Monte Solaro keeps two acres of tiered gardens and ancient pines.

The coves are glassy and quiet early in the morning. By late morning the bays fill with day boats, a good moment to retreat to the pool.
A tour of the coastline by gozzo takes a few unhurried hours and reaches grottoes, arches and swimming spots no path can reach.
Higher and quieter than Capri town, Anacapri often catches a breeze on the hottest nights, and its white lanes invite an after dinner stroll.

Questions before you choose
How do we reach Capri in summer?
Fly to Naples, then take a hydrofoil or ferry from the port of Naples, or travel on to Sorrento for a shorter crossing. In summer boats also run from Positano and Amalfi. Porters carry luggage from Marina Grande.
Can we bring a car?
Not advisable, and in the busy months not permitted for most visitors. Taxis, buses and the funicular cover the island, and many villas are reached on foot along pedestrian lanes.
How long must we stay?
From June to August most villas rent Saturday to Saturday for at least a week. Send us up to five houses in a single enquiry and we will confirm availability and prices within one working day.
