Spring suits Positano more than most visitors realise. The hillsides are green, bougainvillea and wisteria begin to colour the stairways, and the lemon terraces are heavy with fruit. The days are warm enough for lunch outdoors, yet cool enough to walk, which is when the paths above the town are at their finest.
From mid May the private lifts at some villas begin running down to the beach, and outdoor pools usually reopen. Below you will find a pool overlooking the sea above Positano, a waterfall pool beside a 150 m² terrace, and 128 m² of terraces looking across the coast to Li Galli, each a fine base for slow mornings before the summer season.

The high trail from Bomerano to Nocelle runs above Positano with the whole coast below. Spring is the best season for it, before the heat.
The long Sfusato Amalfitano lemon is everywhere in spring: in granita, in limoncello and sliced over fish at lunch.
The sea warms slowly. It is bracing in April and comfortable for most by late May, when the beach clubs are fully open.

Questions before you choose
Is May a good month for Positano?
May is one of the best: long days, a sea warming towards 20 °C, outdoor pools open and a lively town without the crowds of July. Early requests secure the most sought after villas.
Do we need a car?
Not in Positano itself, where the centre is pedestrian and parking is scarce. Buses and ferries link the coast villages, and private drivers are easy to hire for days in Pompeii or Ravello.
