Positano on foot

Villas within walking distance of Positano

Staying within walking distance of the centre changes a Positano holiday. There is no waiting for taxis on the narrow road, no parking to find, and dinner in town ends with a stroll home rather than a transfer. The lanes and stairways link the beach, the church of Santa Maria Assunta and the boutiques of Via dei Mulini.

Every one of the 16 villas below lies within about 1.5 km of the centre. Several sit around a 13th century tower above the bay, from a room in the watchtower itself to a 240 sqm apartment with a heated indoor pool. For larger parties there is a former noble residence reached without the usual climb of steps, and an eight bedroom house with an infinity pool.

Distance is vertical

In Positano, 500 m can mean several hundred steps. We tell you whether the walk to town goes up or down.

The ferry leaves from the beach

Ferries to Capri, Amalfi and Sorrento leave from the pier by the main beach, so a central villa makes day trips easy.

Porters carry the luggage

Porters with trolleys carry bags from the road to many houses; ask us whether your villa needs one on arrival.

Questions before you choose

How is walking distance measured?

We use about 1.5 km from the town centre along paths and roads. Positano is steep, so we describe the route, stairs or lift, for each villa you shortlist.

Can we manage without a car?

Easily. The centre is pedestrian, local buses and taxis serve the coast road, and ferries leave from the beach. In summer a car is more of a burden than a help here.

Is the centre noisy at night?

Central Positano is lively until late in summer, though rarely loud. Villas higher up or a little outside the centre are quieter; tell us your preference and we will guide you.
