Where there is no bridge, a gondola ferry called a traghetto crosses the Grand Canal in a minute or two, with passengers standing.
Most bridges have steps, so luggage on wheels is hard work; porters and water taxis solve it on arrival day.

All are within about 1.5 km of the centre, which in Venice means a walk of roughly 20 minutes at most. We can give the walking route for any home you shortlist.
What is an altana?
A wooden rooftop terrace raised on posts above the tiles, traditionally used to dry laundry and today a private place to watch the sunset over the city.
