Spring is walking season on the Amalfi Coast. Old mule tracks link the villages across the terraces, from the Path of the Gods above Positano to the Valley of the Mills behind Amalfi, where paper was once made using the power of the stream. Wild flowers cover the slopes, and the lemon groves under their chestnut pergolas are in fruit.
The villas below suit an active spring stay. At Praiano, five sea view bedrooms each have a private terrace, with 152 steps down to the beach at Marina di Praia. At Conca dei Marini, a seafront house has a stone platform stepping into the sea; and near Amalfi, a private staircase of about 40 steps descends to Salicerchie beach.

April and May bring mild days that suit the coast's trails. Carry water and good shoes; the paths are stepped and uneven.
Spring brings artichokes, broad beans and anchovies from Cetara, whose fishermen also make colatura, an ancient anchovy sauce.
Swimming is brisk in April. By late May the water is pleasant for most, and outdoor pools are generally open.

Which is the better month, April or May?
May is warmer and livelier, with pools and beach services open. April is quieter and greener, suited to walking and sightseeing. The weeks around Easter fill quickly.
How do we get from the train to our villa?
High speed trains reach Salerno from Rome, Florence and Milan. From there, ferries run to Amalfi and Positano in season, or a driver takes you along the coast road.
Do owners accept short stays in spring?
Frequently. Before the summer weeks, many villas accept stays of fewer than seven nights. Include your dates when you ask about up to five houses, and we will confirm each owner's terms.
