The sea has had all summer to warm, the August crowds have gone home, and the countryside turns to the grape harvest, with Primitivo and Negroamaro coming in from the vineyards. Evenings cool a little, enough for dinner outdoors without the weight of July, and early October often still allows a swim.

After a long summer the Adriatic and Ionian are at their warmest in early September, often warmer than at any point in June.

Questions before you choose
Is September still beach weather?
Very much so. Days are usually warm and sunny through September, and the sea is at its warmest. The weather becomes less settled in October, with more chance of rain, although mild spells are common.
Are villa pools still open in October?
Pools are usually open from May to October, so most remain available into early October. Unheated water cools as the nights lengthen; a heated pool keeps swimming comfortable.
Do we still need a Saturday to Saturday week?
In early September many villas keep the weekly Saturday rental. Later in the month owners are often flexible on arrival day and length. One request may cover up to five villas, with our reply inside one working day.
