Tuscany, for two

Honeymoon villas in Tuscany, just for two

A honeymoon in Tuscany is measured in small things: coffee on a terrace before the valley has woken, a late lunch that becomes an evening, the sound of swifts over a hill town at dusk. Nothing needs booking beyond the house itself, and in May or September the countryside is quiet enough that two people can have it almost to themselves.

The nine homes below have one or two bedrooms and were chosen with couples in mind. A stone farmhouse among the vines near Casole d'Elsa has a heated, glass tiled infinity pool facing the sunset over the vineyard; a small house below the walls of Cortona has its own pool with Roman steps and a gazebo over the valley; and in Lucca a 150 square metre apartment opens onto a private terrace above Piazza Parigi.

Arrive in late spring

May and early June bring wild poppies, long evenings and pools warming up, before the heat and the crowds of high summer.

Ask where the terrace faces

A west facing terrace turns every evening into an occasion. It is worth asking about orientation before you choose between two houses.

Thermal waters in the south

Southern Tuscany has natural hot springs, from the square pool of Bagno Vignoni to the cascades of Saturnia, warm in every season.

Good to know

Questions before you choose

Is Tuscany good for a honeymoon outside summer?

Very. April, May, September and October are mild and the landscape is at its most beautiful. Pools are usually open from May to October, so if swimming matters, travel within those months.

Do we need a car?

For the countryside houses, yes; roads are narrow but quiet and the drives are part of the pleasure. The Lucca apartment is the exception: the old town is walkable and the train from Pisa takes about 30 minutes.

Can we stay fewer than seven nights?

Often, particularly for smaller homes and outside July and August. Send your dates for up to five places in one request and we will tell you within one working day what each owner accepts.
