Lucca
A 19th century family villa above Lucca, with three hectares of fenced gardens and a 25 m pool framed by oaks.
The villa
A late 19th century villa on the first hills north west of Lucca, cherished by the same family for three generations. From its elevated position it looks across the Serchio plain, with only vineyards, olive groves and a few distant houses in view.
Inside
Three floors. Ground floor: entrance hall, open plan living room, study, formal dining room, kitchen, guest bathroom and a breakfast room with fireplace. Five bedrooms on the first floor, three more on the second beside a skylit living room: four doubles, three twins that convert to doubles and a room with four singles. Four en suite, three shared bathrooms.
Outside
About three hectares of fenced gardens with winding paths, lawns shaded by lime and horse chestnut trees, and vineyards and olive groves beyond. The 25 m pool, with a shallow entry for small children, sits on a green terrace framed by bamboo and oaks. A brick terrace under a horse chestnut hosts long lunches.

On the hills north west of Lucca, 7 km from the city; a local wine estate is 20 minutes on foot. Pisa airport is 40 km away, Viareggio 23 km, Forte dei Marmi 39 km and Florence 88 km.
