Summer villas around Lucca, between walls and sea
Lucca has a summer rhythm all of its own. Mornings are for cycling the tree lined Renaissance walls, which run unbroken for about 4 km around the old town; afternoons for the pool or the beaches of Versilia, around 30 minutes away; evenings for a stroll through the oval Piazza dell'Anfiteatro. The green hills behind the city feel fresher than southern Tuscany, which makes July and August easier.
The countryside around Lucca is known for its historic villas and gardens, and the 41 homes below include fine examples. A 17th century villa near Capannori has walled formal gardens recreated from the 1600s and a pool framed by roses and jasmine; near Vicopelago a 15th century residence adds a 16 m infinity pool and a 200 sqm spa; and at Marlia a historic estate with 16 hectares of walled gardens is reserved entirely for your group.

Questions before you choose
How do we get to Lucca?
Pisa airport is about 30 minutes away by car and Florence around 1 hour. Lucca also has a railway station with regular trains from both cities, but a car is useful for reaching the villas.
Is Lucca very hot in summer?
Warm, with afternoons often around 30°C, but the hills north of the city and the breeze from the coast take the edge off the heat. Evenings in the old town are pleasant for dining outside.
When is the minimum stay a full week?
In July and August most villas ask for a week, Saturday to Saturday; in June owners are often more flexible. Choose up to five villas, send one request, and we reply within one working day.
