Easter in Sicily, from a private villa
Holy Week is when Sicily shows its oldest face. Confraternities in hoods carry statues through the streets, bands play slow marches, and in Trapani the Misteri procession lasts through the night of Good Friday. On Easter Sunday families gather for lunch, and pastry shops fill with marzipan lambs and cassata.
The island is green at this time of year and the light is soft, though the sea is still cool. Several villas below have heated pools: an infinity pool at Fontane Bianche, another in the Plemmirio reserve with the water 50 m from the gate. Near Augusta, an estate has its own private chapel, and inland from Ragusa, in baroque country, an 18 m pool looks over olive groves towards the sea.

Easter is the season for cassata and for lambs moulded in almond paste, sold by pastry shops in every Sicilian town.
Spring days can be warm, but pool water stays cold without heating. Several villas here heat their pools, which we confirm when you enquire.

Questions before you choose
Is it warm enough to swim at Easter?
The sun is often pleasant in the afternoon, but the sea is fresh and most people find it cold. A heated pool is the comfortable choice; pools are usually open from May, so ask us about each villa.
Can we stay fewer than seven nights?
Outside high summer many owners accept shorter stays, which suits an Easter week. We ask each owner about the length that works for your dates.
