Ravello, Holy Week

Easter in Ravello, in a villa of your own

Easter comes to Ravello before the summer does. The lanes are quiet, the gardens begin to flower and the view over the Gulf of Salerno is often at its clearest after spring rain. Holy Week is kept with services in the churches of the coast, and on Good Friday processions wind through towns along the shore. At the table, Easter in Campania means lamb, spring artichokes and pastiera, the ricotta and wheat tart of the season.

The villas below suit a slower spring stay. One, built in 1927 into the cliff below Ravello, was for 30 years a celebrated writer's home, in nearly three hectares of parkland. Another is a 19th century house above the town, once a lookout over the sea. For larger families, a Saracen watchtower turned monastery above Atrani has a private chef and nine terraces among citrus orchards.

Spring weather, honestly

Days can be mild and bright, with cool evenings and a chance of rain. Pack a jacket, and ask us about heating and fireplaces.

The Easter table

Order a pastiera from a local pastry shop, or ask a cook to bake one. Casatiello, a rich bread with cheese and salami, is the other Easter tradition.

Walks before the heat

Spring is the season for the stepped paths linking Ravello, Scala and Atrani, when the terraced lemon groves are green and the air is still cool.

Good to know

Questions before you choose

Will the villa pool be open at Easter?

Pools are usually open from May to October, so at Easter most are not yet in use unless heated. Some houses here have heated water, and we confirm the situation for your dates.

Is Easter a busy time in Ravello?

The holiday weekend brings Italian and foreign visitors to the coast, so villas fill earlier than you might expect. Even so, it remains far calmer than summer.

Can we book less than a week at Easter?

Often, yes. Outside high season many owners accept shorter stays. Send one enquiry for up to five villas with your dates, and we reply within one working day with availability and terms.
