Christmas in Umbria is rooted in its own history: St Francis, the region's patron, is credited with creating the first living nativity scene, and villages across the region still set up elaborate presepi in churches and piazzas. Above Gubbio, the slopes of Mount Ingino are lit each December with a vast tree of lights visible across the valley.
