Family villas on Lake Garda, by the water and olives
Lake Garda is one of the easiest places in Italy for a family holiday. The southern shores are gently shelving, the water is clean and calm on most mornings, and there is always something to do on a hot afternoon, from ferry rides and castle walls at Sirmione and Malcesine to the Gardaland theme park near Peschiera.
The nine villas below all have at least three bedrooms and space to run. At Garda, a Liberty style house has its own beach and pier on the lake. Above Bardolino, a single storey house sits in 6,000 sq m of gardens, its porch and pool looking out to the water, and at Gaino a restored 1920s house with period fireplaces stands among olive trees above the western shore.
At a glance
- 9 private villas
- From 4 to 9 bedrooms
- Up to 16 guests in one villa
- 9 with a private pool
- 2 with a cook or staff
- Availability and price on request, reply within one working day
The Scaliger castles at Sirmione and Malcesine rise straight from the lake, and children can climb their walls and towers.
A rotating cable car climbs from Malcesine to the ridge of Monte Baldo, with cooler air and wide views over the lake.
Lake ferries and faster hydrofoils link the main towns, so a day out can start and end at the jetty.

Questions before you choose
Which part of the lake is best with small children?
The southern and eastern shores have gentler access to the water and shorter drives to the sights. The north is wilder and windier, better for older children who sail or cycle.
Do the villas have pool fencing?
It varies by house. Tell us the ages of your children and we will ask each owner about fencing, gates and pool alarms before you choose.
How far ahead should we enquire for school holidays?
Early, as family villas with a pool fill first. Ask about up to five in one request; we reply within one working day. July and August stays are normally Saturday to Saturday.
