A 17th century granary transformed by the architect Gae Aulenti, with a separate guest house, on an estate of more than 600 hectares recognised as a Natural Monument. English style gardens by Lauro Marchetti and Dan Pearson frame the ruins of a medieval village.
Inside
Main house, on three floors linked by a lift: a top floor master suite with fireplace, dressing room and windows on three sides, beside a beamed living room; two doubles and a twin with private bathrooms; sitting rooms with bar and TV; a dining room seating 30. Guest house: three doubles with bathrooms, a conservatory sitting room, kitchen, cinema library and wine cellar.
Outside
Ancient woodlands and gardens of rambling roses, wisteria, wild flowers and ferns surround the houses, with the ruins of a 16th century chapel to walk to. A shaded pergola covers the furnished outdoor dining area; a terrace with a fountain opens from the breakfast room.
Location
In the countryside south of Rome, about 70 km from the centre. The Gardens of Ninfa are 16 km away, the beaches around Anzio about 30 km. Rome Ciampino Airport is 45 km, Rome Fiumicino 80 km.
